Baldwin, Kind Support Legislation to Provide Certainty to Biofuel Producers
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 01/17/2022

U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin and Rep. Ron Kind are among those joining bipartisan legislation to prohibit the Environmental Protection Agency from reducing the minimum applicable volume of biofuels that must be blended into transportation fuel once those levels are finalized for any given year.

Known as the 'Defend the Blend Act,' the measure would prevent the EPA from retroactively reducing 2020 or future finalized Renewable Volume Obligations, or RVOs.

"Wisconsin's farmers and producers put food on our tables and fuel in our tanks, and they deserve certainty and stability from the government," said Sen. Baldwin. "I am proud to support this legislation that will provide certainty for our farmers and our Made In Wisconsin renewable fuels industry, helping create and keep good paying jobs in small towns and rural areas."

Last month, the agency released a proposed rule that, in part, seeks to reduce the 2020 RVOs, which were originally finalized in late 2019.

The Renewable Fuels Association, American Coalition for Ethanol and Growth Energy have spoken out in support of the legislation.
