UW-RF to Partner with NTC to Provide Dairy Science Education
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 05/12/2010
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls and Northcentral Technical College have announced a new agreement providing additional educational opportunities for dairy science students seeking a bachelor's
degree. Under the new agreement, NTC students who have successfully completed the associate degree in Dairy Science may transfer their credits to the Bachelor of Science degree in Dairy
Science-Management Option at UW-RF. In addition, some of the course work for the associate degree may be completed at the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County.
The Dairy Science associate degree program will have some class offerings at the Agriculture Center of Excellence, a farm of the future located in Marathon County. At the farm, students will learn skills
needed to excel in the management of the herd, nutrition, crops, equipment, buildings and business. In addition, the Agriculture Center of Excellence will be a rural renewable energy center featuring renewable
technologies in both farm operations and educational programs. Students who elect to go on to UW-RF for a Bachelor of Science degree will be joining one of the three largest undergraduate dairy science
programs in the nation.
"This is a great opportunity for our students to continue their education through a collaboration between educational institutions to benefit the future of Wisconsin's dairy industry," stated Scott Mickelsen, NTC
Dean of Agriculture and Community Services. "This agreement allows students a seamless transition to continue their education."
UW-RF CAFES Dean Dale Gallenberg says his faculty and staff have been excited to work with their colleagues at NTC and UW-Marathon County on this partnership. He says the program will provide
students with additional educational opportunities and demonstrates the commitment all three institutions have in supporting the dairy industry in Wisconsin.
