Lee Named 'Outstanding Researcher' by Rural Health Group
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 05/12/2017

The director of the National Children's Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety at Marshfield Clinic is the recipient of the 2017 Outstanding Researcher Award by the National Rural Health Association. Barbara Lee, Ph.D., who also serves as the interim director of the National Farm Medicine Center, was honored on Thursday at the NRHA annual conference in San Diego.

Dr. Lee has directed the NIOSH-funded NCCRAHS for the past 20 years. During that time, the rate of childhood farm-related, non-fatal injuries has declined by nearly 70 percent--an accomplishment described by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as one of the top ten public health successes of the last decade.

Lee thanked NRHA for highlighting childhood agricultural health and safety efforts. She said she was accepting the award on behalf of her researchers and staff, past and present.

Brent Miller, director of federal government relations for Marshfield Clinic Health System; and Bryan Weichelt, Ph.D., project scientist for the National Farm Medicine Center, nominated Barb for the award.
