State Egg Production Still on the Rise

Wisconsin egg production during April was 147 million eggs, up three percent from last month, and 11 percent more than last year.
According to the latest USDA Chickens and Eggs report, the average number of all layers on hand during the past month was 6.04 million, up five percent from last month, and seven percent more than last year.
Eggs per 100 layers for April were 2,432 down two percent from last month, but up three percent from 2016.
Nationally, egg production totaled 8.64 billion during April, up four percent from last year. Production included 7.55 billion table eggs, and 1.10 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.02 billion were broiler-type and 78.4 million were egg-type. The total number of
layers averaged 374 million, up two percent from the same period in 2016.
