Webinar to Discuss Research Findings of Economic Impact of Co-ops
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 05/15/2008

Mark your calendars for June 26, 1 p.m. to join the National Cooperative Business Association for a webinar which tells the cooperative story based on the University of Wisconsin Center for Cooperative's research project which documents the economic impact of cooperatives in the United States.

This information is critical for those within the cooperative community as it offers valuable insights for marketing, public policy, and creating awareness for cooperatives as the better business model.

Recognizing the need for statistics to make the case for cooperatives to the public, NCBA made it a priority several years ago to secure funding for research. NCBA worked diligently to lobby Congress for funding, resulting in federal and private financing for research measuring the economic impact of cooperatives.

Brent Hueth, associate professor and director of the University of Wisconsin Center for Cooperatives, will discuss the research results from this landmark study that examined agricultural, farm credit and rural electric co-ops as well as credit unions. During this one hour call, participants will learn about the number of cooperatives and why they have such a substantial impact on American society. Hueth plans to cover such topics as: Measures of economic impact --induced and direct measures such as wages, assets, employment and taxes; Why cooperatives matter to the United States; and A mapping of cooperatives by sector and by location.

NCBA members can attend this webinar free of charge; non-members can attend this session for $20. For more information, call 202-383-5471.
