State Corn Spots Return to Brewers' Radio Broadcasts
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 05/20/2009

The Wisconsin Corn Growers Association is returning to the air waves this baseball season with 30-second commercials that air during Milwaukee Brewers radio broadcasts. The advertisements are in the familiar question-and-answer format of similar ads that ran last season and generated a great deal of excitement from listeners.

WCGA Director Bob Oleson says one of the current messages talks about how farmers in the United States are producing 70 percent more corn per pound of fertilizer than they did just 35 years ago while growing five times more of the crop on 20 percent fewer acres.

"That commercial is just one of several highlighting corn farmer innovations that enable Wisconsin corn growers to keep up with growing demand for more environmentally sustainable corn production," Oleson said. "Future radio ads will highlight other cropping innovations such as no-till planting, satellite technology, built-in insect resistance and the strategic importance of growing our own food."

The ads were developed by the Corn Farmers Coalition, a group of state corn grower associations and the National Corn Growers Association. They are posted online at www.wicornpro.org and are running on radio stations across the Midwest.

The WCGA represents the interest of state corn growers in the growing and managing of corn grown both for on-farm feeding and commercial sale. The group also works with other organizations in areas of mutual concern, including biotech issues, resistance management, pesticide issues, farmland taxation and valuation, conservation, and the environment.
