NWS Confirms Recent Tornado Path Was 83 Miles Long
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 05/25/2017

In addition to causing one death and millions of dollars in damages, the tornado that touched down in northern Wisconsin last week has set an all-time record in terms of its length. New information from the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities confirms that the May 16 twister traveled a total distance of 83 miles before it dissipated.

The agency has upgraded the tornado to an EF-3 with wind speeds up to 140 miles per hour.

Newly released estimates are putting Barron County's total damages at around $12 million--most of which occurred in a trailer park in Chetek, which left one man dead and many others injured.

In Rusk County, the total amount of destruction could top over $400,000.

The NWS has been keeping records on tornadoes since 1950.
