Central Wisconsin Woman Faces Animal Neglect Charges
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 05/31/2019

A 58-year-old Spencer woman is facing misdemeanor charges after authorities found some of her farm animals were living in extreme poor conditions.

The Marathon County Sheriff's Department says Karen Welch is being charged with nine counts of intentionally neglecting her animals after deputies found they did not have adequate water, were being kept in a collapsed barn and living in knee-deep manure.

A judge set a $1,000 signature bond and ordered Welch not to buy or care for any new animals.

If convicted, Welch could face up to six years in prison and $90,000 in fines.
