UW-RF Brings Back Food Science and Technology Program
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 05/27/2016

The College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls is reinstating its Food Science and Technology program. The initiative, which was suspended several years ago by the school, will be accepting students back into the program beginning this fall.

CAFES Dean Dale Gallenberg says the original decision to suspend the program was based around issues of enrollment, staffing and course availability.

"Our original decision to suspend the Food Science and Technology program was difficult, but necessary, at the time given the factors involved," Gallenberg said. "However, as circumstances both internally and externally have changed, reinstatement is the right decision for us now."

The college is currently engaged in a major renovation of its Dairy Pilot Plant that is being funded primarily through private donations from industry. Many of the supporters of this project indicated their interest in bringing back the program.

Meanwhile, the college's agricultural engineering department recently hired a faculty member with expertise in food process engineering to help work with the program's curriculum.
