WALSAA Honors UW-Madison CALS Outstanding Sophomores
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/01/2015

The Wisconsin Agricultural and Life Sciences Alumni Association has announced the Outstanding Sophomore Award recipients for the 2014-15 school year. The award is presented to students currently enrolled in the CALS program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison who have demonstrated excellence. Each student is awarded a financial gift to apply toward tuition in their junior year.

"In just two years of college, these students are involved in so many things on and off campus," said Robb Bender, co-chairman of the scholarship committee. "It's difficult to choose just 10 students, and we try to make the process a learning experience for all applicants."

Students are evaluated based on their academic achievements, service to the school and community, experience in their field of study and a face-to-face interview. This year, there were 75 applications submitted, with 20 students selected to interview in front of a panel of three WALSAA board members. Ten final awardees were selected based on interview performance.

Sophomores from Wisconsin receiving a plaque and $2,000 scholarships include McKenzie Rowley, Loyal; Ryan Rebernick, Caledonia; Kelly Wilfert, Two Rivers; Sydney Endres, Lodi; Elizabeth Endres, Waunakee; Samantha Miller, Oconomowok; Siddak Kanwar, Rochester, Minn.; Alexa Roscizewski, Eagle; Sara Harn, Brooklyn; and Courtney McCourt, St. Cloud.

WALSAA is a charitable organization that supports the connection of students, faculty and alumni to the University of Wisconsin's College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
