Financial support for the Wisconsin FFA during the past year has reach a new record high. During the 90th Wisconsin FFA Convention in Madison on Tuesday, State FFA Foundation Board President Ginger Braml announced that sponsorships and other contributions to the organization have totaled $659,219 this year.

Attendees also heard from State FFA Foundation Director John Hromyak, who challenged students to get involved and take advantage of the opportunities that FFA has to offer because of the generous support of its donors.

Also on Tuesday, student members were recognized in various events. Speaking contest winners included Cheyenne Burgess, Shullsburg, Discussion Meet; Hailey Clausen, Amery; Extemporaneous Speaking; Ben Styer, Menomonie, Prepared Public Speaking; and Kelly Herness, Whitehall, Creed Speaking. The Stevens Point FFA won the Jr. High Quiz Bowl Contest, and Denmark earned top honors for Parli Pro. Olivia Peterson, Portage, was selected as the 2019 winner of the Junior High Essay Contest.

Individual Proficiency Award winners were also recognized on stage. All of the state winners will advance to national competition this fall at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Attendees were also motivated throughout the day by various speakers, including motivational presenter Wiley Bailey and National FFA Secretary Layni LeBlanc. And the evening wrapped up with a special FFA concert by Chris Kroeze, who is a Barron County native who finished runner-up on The Voice.

The convention continues on Wednesday with more award announcements like the State FFA Star Awards, adult recognition, the induction of candidates earning their State FFA Degrees, and the naming of the 2019-20 state officer team. The conference wraps-up on Thursday with the naming of the National Chapter Award winner and the announcement of the new state FFA president.

Wisconsin Ag Connection will continue to provide up-to-the-minute updates throughout the convention, thanks to a special sponsorship by the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin and Foremost Farms USA. The event is being held at the Alliant Energy Center.
