Great Lakes Cheese Co. Unveils Expansion Plans

A Wausau area cheese processor plans to build a new 150,000 square foot packaging plant over the next four years, which they say could result in about 125 new jobs in the area. Great Lakes Cheese Co. wants to acquire 60 acres in a nearby industrial park
and will utilize over $6 million of credits through a special tax district financing plan.
The Ohio-based company currently employs about 200 people at its present location. They also have other facilities throughout Wisconsin, New York and other states.
Officials with Great Lakes say the project will cost about $85 million and should be complete by 2021.
The project must still be approved the city's finance committee and the Wausau city council before moving forward.
