Financial support behind the Wisconsin FFA continues to reach high levels. During the 88th Wisconsin FFA Convention in Madison on Tuesday, State FFA Foundation Board President Amber Vickers Keller announced that sponsorships and other contributions to the organization have totaled $483,010 this year.

"On our board, some of us grew up on farms. Some of us were former FFA members ourselves. And some of us were even past state officers. But all of us believe in the mission and values of this organization," said Foundation Board President Amber Vickers Keller. "We can't thank our sponsors enough for getting us close to the half-million mark."

Attendees also heard from State FFA Foundation Director John Hromyak, who challenged students to get involved and take advantage of the opportunities that FFA has to offer because of the generous support of its donors.

Also on Tuesday, student members were recognized in various events. Speaking contest winners included Sam Pinchart, Luxemburg-Casco, Discussion Meet; Braden Kundert, Badger, Extemporaneous Speaking; Tommie Loken, Mineral Point, Prepared Public Speaking; and Katrina Hoesly, Denmark, Creed Speaking. The Black Hawk FFA won the Jr. High Quiz Bowl Contest, and Stanley-Boyd earned top honors for Parli Pro.

Mikayla Boehm, New Auburn, won the 2017 Junior High Essay Contest. And Casey Kroening, Ladysmith, was the winner of the GROWMARK Essay Contest.

Individual Proficiency Award winners were also recognized on stage. All of the state winners will advance to national competition this fall at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Attendees were also motivated throughout the day by various speakers, including National FFA Vice President DeShawn Blanding and Motivational Speaker Aaron Thomas.

The convention continues on Wednesday with more award announcements like the State FFA Star Awards, adult recognition, the induction of candidates earning their State FFA Degrees, and the naming of the 2017-18 state officer team. The conference wraps-up on Thursday with the naming of the National Chapter Award winner and the announcement of the new state FFA president.

Wisconsin Ag Connection will continue to provide up-to-the-minute updates throughout the convention, thanks to a special sponsorship by Landmark Services Cooperative, Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board and Foremost Farms USA. The event is being held at the Alliant Energy Center.
