Rep. Kind Issues Dairy Action Plan to Help Struggling Farmers
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/17/2019

With a heavy concentration of dairy farmers in his congressional district, Rep. Ron Kind has unveiled a six-point plan of action to help boost Wisconsin's dairy industry. During a press conference in La Crosse on Friday, Kind says his 'Dairy Action Plan for the 116th Congress' will attempt to maintain open export markets, provide a stable workforce for farmers, and boost agriculture research that benefits Wisconsin farms.

The 10-term Democrat lawmaker also wants to find ways to streamline federal dairy programs, discourage farm consolidation, and help more young people go into production agriculture.

"Average farmer here in Wisconsin are 59 or 60 years old now," he points out. "We need that next generation of farmers to be able to step in, smooth transitions, take over operations or even set up their own for the first time."

He also feels the United States needs to do more to open new markets for the dairy industry to sell its products.

Kind plans to share his points with fellow lawmakers in hopes of reaching bipartisan progress in implementing programs that help spur the industry in the current struggling farm economy.
