Wisconsin FFA Convention Kicks-Off in Madison
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/16/2015

Over 3,000 FFA members and supporters from around Wisconsin are expected to arrive at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison on Tuesday for the kick-off session of the 86th State FFA Convention. On Monday, the 2014-15 state officers held a reflections program to begin their annual celebration, where they reminisced about the past year and talked about all the accomplishments local students were able to achieve. They also spent much of the day working on their annual community service project, in which the officers were joined by volunteers from local chapters assembling meal packets to be distributed to the Second Harvest Food Bank. Other students volunteered their time working on projects around the Madison area.

Also Monday, 28 members began their quest to become future state officers as this year's candidates went through interviews to discuss why they should be selected to be part of the new team.

The convention officially begins with the opening session today at noon, where winners will be named for several speaking contests and many members will be honored on stage as winners of State FFA Proficiency awards. Tonight, the organization will pay tribute to many of its top sponsors. Winners will also be announced for the Food For America program.

During the week, delegates will hear from several speakers like Barrett Keene, Dr. Jermaine Davis and National FFA Vice President Kristen Schmidt.

Wisconsin FFA leaders say there were over 19,000 FFA members in Wisconsin as of this past year--the largest number in over two decades.
