Ballmer Named State FFA President, Waupaca is Top Chapter
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/16/2017

The Wisconsin FFA Association has a new president. Ciera Ballmer of the Clinton FFA Chapter was elected during the closing session of the 88th Wisconsin FFA Convention on Thursday to replace out-going leader Brenna Bays of the Adams-Friendship FFA. Ballmer is a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she is majoring in dairy science and life communications. She served as a state FFA vice president during the past year.

Other members of the newly elected 2017-18 state officer team include Meikah Dado, Amery, reporter; Brooke Brantner, Menomonie, vice president; Ciara Koboski, Black River Falls, vice president; Morgan Fitzsimmons, Mineral Point, vice president; Liz Grady, Oregon, secretary; Saml Jesse, Lodi, sentinel; Kathryn Lampi, Owen-Withee, parliamentarian; Elisha Riley, Waupaca, treasurer; Sam Pinchart, Luxemburg-Casco, vice president; and Amelia Hayden, Big Foot, vice president.

In her retiring address, Bays encouraged her fellow FFA members to come out of their comfort zone and try new things.

"Trying something new and persevering through life's challenges are both leadership qualities that each of us possess," Bays noted. "Whether it be in a sport, activity, or in our job, we are always being inspired to keep going, keep achieving, and keep learning. It's the little skills that we acquire that make us feel unstoppable."

Meanwhile, three other students were selected to join the state officers as official delegates at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, this fall. They are Alexis Luedtke, Beaver Dam; Crystal Cafferty, Mauston; and Colleen Toberman, Parkview.

Also on Thursday, the Waupaca FFA was named the state's top chapter--an elite honor that the program has received for 11 of the past 16 years. And Baldwin-Woodville was the winner of the annual scrapbook contest for the second year in a row.

The annual conference was attended by over 3,500 students, family and supporters this year. All of the events took place at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
