Rep. Kind Sponsoring Bill to Preserve the Dairy Industry
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/16/2017

Wisconsin Congressman Ron Kind is touting some of his ideas on how to preserve the future of the state's dairy sector. The La Crosse Democrat is sponsoring a bill that offers a comprehensive plan to fix some of the problems he has been hearing about from Wisconsin dairy farmers in recent weeks.

"During June Dairy Days I have had the privilege of talking with many dairy farmers and their families, and in each conversation they have emphasized how hard the past few years have been for them," Kind said. "It is critical that we take steps to secure the future of Wisconsin dairy by leveling the playing field and putting in place policies that give our dairy farmers the tools they need to thrive."

Kind says his plan includes five key principles, which includes opening new markets for Wisconsin farmers; making the tax code and dairy programs more efficient; encouraging the younger people to become farmers; expanding agriculture research; and reform immigration policies.

Earlier this month, Kind co-sponsored another measure that would promote on-farm investments in manure digestion technology by providing tax incentives for producers who implement the technology on their operations.
