Wisconsin FFA Convention Kicks-Off in Madison
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/10/2008

Nearly 3,500 FFA members and supporters from around Wisconsin are expected to arrive at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison on Tuesday for the kick-off session of the 79th State FFA Convention. On Monday, the 2007-08 state officers held a reflections program to begin their annual celebration, where they reminisced about the past year and talked about all the accomplishments local students were able to achieve.

Also Monday, 53 members began their quest to become future state officers as this year's candidates went through interviews to discuss why they should be selected to be part of the new team.

Meanwhile, the convention officially begins with the opening session today at noon, where winners will be named for several speaking contests and many members will be honored on stage as winners of State FFA Proficiency awards. There will also be a video tribute in honor of last year's State FFA President, Matthew Anderson, who passed away last year in a farming accident.

Tonight, the organization will pay tribute to many of its top sponsors. Winners will also be announced for Food For America, Agriscience and Teacher Awards and Cooperative Leadership honors.

During the week, delegates will hear from several speakers like Governor Jim Doyle, Motivational Speakers Rhett Laubach and Ed Gerety, Hypnotist Jim Wand and National FFA Vice President Morgan Parker.

Wisconsin Ag Connection will be providing up-to-the-minute updates throughout the week live from the convention. The Wisconsin FFA Convention continues through Thursday.
