Cooperative Plus, Landmark Services Boards Vote to Merge
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/13/2011

Two of Wisconsin's largest farm service cooperatives may soon become one entity. Last week, board members of Cooperative Plus and Landmark Services Cooperative voted unanimously to merge their companies during a special meeting. The idea will now be presented to cooperative members for their approval.

News of the merger was first announced last month when leaders of each of the companies signed a letter of intent to join forces. Landmark CEO Bob Carlson says the cooperatives are dedicated to providing the best in products, service, facilities and staff for their members and says this move would help the two businesses accomplish that goal.

"Landmark's board of directors and management staff is excited about taking this discussion to the next level and we feel confident this is a step in the right direction for the membership of both cooperatives." Carlson said.

Jim Lange, who serves as the board president for Cooperative Plus, said it's his company's desire to continue to provide members with the best value in the marketplace, and said Landmark would be an ideal partner to make that happen.

Meanwhile, informational meetings for Cooperative Plus members will be held on June 30 in Union Grove and July 6 in Burlington and Elkhorn. The final vote and special meeting will be held on July 18. Upon a majority vote by the Cooperative Plus membership, the merger would become final the end of each cooperatives' fiscal year, which is September 30.

Last year, Cooperative Plus earned $72 million is gross sales. The Burlington-based company has seven locations and over 5,000 active members in southeastern Wisconsin and northeastern Illinois. Landmark, which is headquartered in Cottage Grove, had $288 million sales in 2010 and employs about 400 people at its 16 locations in Wisconsin and Illinois and serves about 15,000 patron-members.
