Zimmerman Earns Record (3) Star Awards, FFA Team Selected
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/14/2012

No Wisconsin FFA member in history has ever earned two 'State Star' awards before, but one student can now say he's claimed three. Aaron Zimmerman of the Spencer FFA was named Wisconsin Star Farmer, Star in Agriscience, and Star in Agri-Business during the organization's state convention in Madison on Wednesday. And before his name was called to be part of the 2012-13 state officer team, he also placed first in the state for the job interview contest and was the runner-up in the discussion meet.

With glossy eyes, he told Wisconsin Ag Connection that he's excited to serve as a state officer--something he knows a few things about, being that his mother, Cheryl, has served as the association's executive director since the time he was born.

Other members of 2012-13 state officer team include Nate Overby, Amery; Gabes Rabb, New Richmond; Zachary Markhardt, Black River Falls; Nick Huffman, Pecatonica; Logan Wells, Monroe; Nate Zimdars, Ripon; Beth Rieth, Oconto Falls; Joanna Wavrunek, Denmark; and Emily Watson, Elkhorn.

Marshfield FFA's Andrew Heiman was named the 2012 Star in Agricultural Placement. And another 327 members walked across the stage to receive their State FFA Degrees. Many other students were recognized as scholarship winners.

Meanwhile, chapter honors went to the Manawa FFA, which was named the winner of the Food For America Award. Darlington took first place in the Senior High Opening/Closing Ceremonies Contest. And Stevens Point won the Sr. High Quiz Bowl competition.

Other highlights included the induction of Farres Harrison, Gary Rohde and Donald Loomans into FFA Hall of Fame; Dr. Rick Daluge and Mike Kawleski were honored with VIP citations; and 19 supporters were granted Honorary FFA membership. Convention attendees also heard from Alice in Dairyland Rochelle Ripp and State Deputy Ag Secretary Jeff Lyons.

State FFA President Ethan Giebel and his officer team will hang up their FFA jackets one last time on Thursday morning before installing the 2012-13 officers. The 83rd Wisconsin FFA Convention will then wrap-up with the naming of the state's top chapter and the new FFA president.
