Walker, Brancel Celebrate 'WI Cheese Day' with Industry Tours
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/26/2017

Governor Scott Walker is joining State Agriculture Secretary Ben Brancel and Mark Hogan of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, along with other key state leaders in visiting a half-dozen cheese plants across the state on Monday to celebrate 'Wisconsin State Day.' Each of the facilities are in the process of expanding their operations.

Brancel says the purpose of the tours is to thank each of the companies for their contributions to the state's economy and dairy industry. He adds that the news is welcomed after the industry went through a shake-up this past April when nearly a hundred dairy producers were told by their processors that they needed to find new buyers for their milk because those plants were at full-capacity.

The dignitaries will be making stops at Klondike Cheese, Monroe; Masters Gallery Foods, Plymouth; Great Lakes Cheese, La Crosse; Westby Cooperative Creamery, Westby; Biery Cheese, Plover; and Renard's Cheese/Rosewood Dairy, Algoma.

Held in conjunction with June Dairy Month, Wisconsin Cheese Day highlights the importance of the product to Wisconsin's economy and acknowledges cheesemakers' contributions to the industry.
