Elk in Sauk County Tests Positive for CWD
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/26/2018

It appears that the fatal brain disease that has been spreading throughout Wisconsin's deer population is now starting to impact the elk herd. On Monday, the state's agriculture department confirmed that an elk from a breeding farm in Sauk County has tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease.

The animal was tested after she died giving birth earlier this month and the farm she lived on has since been quarantined.

State animal health officials say the farm was fenced and had 15 head of elk in its possession.

DATCP will now investigate the animal's history to try to determine how it was exposed to CWD.
