Truck Idling Program Offers Funds to Help Reduce Fuel Costs
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/18/2008

Common, contract, and private motor carriers in Wisconsin interested in the installation of idling reduction equipment can receive grants from the Diesel Truck Idling Reduction Grant Program at the Department of Commerce. Applications will be accepted July 1 and are available at www.commerce.wi.gov/dieselgrantprogram.

"This grant program can help truckers deal with escalating fuel costs while we work together to reduce air pollution," said Commerce Secretary Jack L. Fischer, AIA. "In prior years, we've had a tremendous response from the trucking industry, with grant requests far exceeding available funds."

Idling reduction units provide an alternative source of power to heat, cool, or provide electricity to the cab and parts of the truck in lieu of operating the truck's main drive engine. These units reduce air pollution emissions and fuel costs. The program is designed to help common, contract and private motor carriers purchase and install idling reduction technologies that can reduce air pollution emissions and fuel consumption. Field testing data derived from the experience of participants will be analyzed on a regular basis.

Eligible applicants will receive a reimbursement of up to 50-percent for the purchase and installation of idling reduction equipment.
