WFBF Praises Congress on Trade Promotion Authority Vote
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/26/2015

With the U.S. Senate now on board with the Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015, the state's largest farm organization says it is glad to see free trade agreements finally in reach of President Obama's signature. Wisconsin Farm Bureau President Jim Holte said in a statement that free trade agreements will result from the passing of Trade Promotion Authority; and that will benefit local farm families with new markets and lower tariffs for Wisconsin agricultural products.

"We are pleased that Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin voted yes with 59 other U.S. Senators to pass TPA," Holte said. "We appreciate Senator Johnson's overall support of trade. He understands its importance to Wisconsin agriculture."

Senator Tammy Baldwin voted no on the bill this week.

Holte adds that TPA streamlines negotiations and strengthens our position at the bargaining table.

"This legislative effort has been a priority of Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan and we appreciate his leadership on this important issue for agriculture," He said.

The House voted on the same package last week after rejecting another version of the legislation earlier in June.
