State Cranberry Growers Saw Highest Yield Ever in 2016

The final numbers are now in for Wisconsin's cranberry production during the past growing season. According to newly released USDA figures, state growers produced 6.13 million barrels of cranberries in 2016, up from 4.86 million barrels the year prior.

The total number of acres harvested last year was also up by 900 at 21,100 acres. And average yield per acre broke an all-time record of 288 barrels, which was up from last year's 237 barrels.

Meanwhile, the price of cranberries was unchanged at $29.20 per barrel. As a result, the total value of utilized production increased to $177 million dollars.

Wisconsin did maintain its number-one ranking in total cranberry output with 64 percent of the nation's total. The state's total production was more than twice that of Massachusetts, which is the next highest producing state.
