Ullmer & Strauss Earn Klussendorf-McKown Scholarships
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/26/2021

Two Wisconsin students are among the winning students from across the country to receive a college scholarship from the Klussendorf Association and McKown Fund through the National Dairy Shrine.

Mackenzie Ullmer from Seymour is one of three winners of the Klussendorf scholarship. A sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Ullmer takes an active role in her family's dairy operation. Through her activities in and out of the show ring, Mackenzie was the first to be recognized as Outstanding Junior by the Wisconsin Ayrshire Breeders' Association.

And one of the McKown Scholarship winners this year is Carly Strauss of Lake Mills. She is a sophomore at Iowa State University who credits the work she has done on her family's fifth-generation dairy farm with fueling her passion to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Carly has also been active showing animals at state and national shows, including mentoring young would-be exhibitors.

Scholarships are awarded each year to students in their first, second, or third year at a two-year or four-year college or university majoring in dairy science, animal science, agri-business, or other related majors that will develop the skills needed to pursue a career in the dairy industry.

The Klussendorf scholarships are made available as a result of a gift from the late Klussendorf member Chris Kampf, who won the Klussendorf award in 1956. All of the recipients will be recognized during an awards banquet held at World Dairy Expo this October in Madison.
