State Youth Participate in National Holstein Convention Events
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/29/2015

Several youth from Wisconsin were recognized as top finalists in the Distinguished Junior Member contest at last week's National Holstein Convention in St. Charles, Illinois. The DJM award is the highest honor that can be given to a Junior Holstein member. Honored for their work during the past year were Jessica Pralle of Humbird and Liz Endres from Waunakee. Other semi-finalists from Wisconsin include Kayla Krueger, Marion; and Andy Sell, Watertown.

Each of the students completed an entry book, detailing their Junior Holstein project work, involvement with their cattle, program participation, and school and community activities.

This year's state Young DJM finalists, which recognizes youth ages 9-16, were Rachel McCullough, Juda and Dawson Nichols, Watertown.

In the Dairy Jeopardy contest, Liz Endres placed second in the nation for the senior division. A junior Dairy Bowl team from Dodge County placed third, and a senior team from Polk County also came in third place.

Charlie Hamilton was elected to the national Junior Activities Committee. Jordan Siemers came off the board, where he served as chair during the past year.

And at the adult Holstein convention, R. Paul Buhr of Viroqua was re-elected to the national Holstein board of directors. He was also honored for being a Holstein Association member for 40 years, along with Barbara Kayser of Milton.
