Longtime WPA Lobbyist Mike Wehler Retires

The executive vice president of the Wisconsin Pork Association has announced his retirement. Mike Wehler of Plain has stepped down from his responsibilities on January 1 after serving on the WPA staff since 2005. Prior to that, he was a lobbyist for the organization on the state and national levels for many years.

A former president of various state and national pork check-off organizations, Wehler formerly served as chairman of the U.S. Pork Center of Excellence. He also operates a sow farrow-to-finish and seedstock operation.

In 2004, he was inducted into the National Pork Industry Hall of Fame.

Meanwhile, longtime WPA Director Tammy Vassen has been named the new executive vice president. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, she has been with the WPA since 1993.
