Dairy farmers tackle carbon footprint at conference
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 01/29/2024

With climate action taking center stage, dairy farms face both challenges and opportunities in managing their carbon footprint. Carbon Conference 2.0, presented by Professional Dairy Producers® (PDP), aims to equip farmers with the knowledge and tools to thrive in this evolving landscape.

Taking place on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024, at the Sheraton Madison Hotel in Madison, WI, this one-day event delves into the intricacies of carbon credits, emissions reduction strategies, and potential pitfalls in the carbon marketplace. Attendees will gain insights from industry experts and leave equipped with actionable steps to implement on their farms. Visit www.pdpw.org to register in advance; walk-in registrations are also welcome.

“Fortunately, a variety of methods are already available to us to reduce emissions. This program is designed to give you the resources you need to return to your farm ready to apply what you’ve learned,” said Shelly Mayer, dairy producer from Slinger, Wis., and PDP executive director. “In addition, attendees will have access to conference presenters all day for questions and insights.”

The conference boasts a lineup of renowned speakers, including:

• Mark Inkrott, Upfield Group: Bringing extensive experience in agriculture, food, and sustainability, Inkrott will share insights on market trends and strategic considerations for dairy farmers.

• Dr. Sara Kvidera, Elanco Animal Health: A leading expert in dairy cow health and nutrition, Dr. Kvidera will explore emissions reduction strategies related to feed, gut health, and animal management.

• Daniel Peerless, Nestlé Global: Gain firsthand knowledge from Nestlé's sustainable sourcing leader on the company's expectations and requirements for dairy suppliers in the carbon-conscious era.

• Patrick Wood, Ag Methane Advisors: Leverage Wood's expertise in environmental commodities as he guides farmers on maximizing the financial benefits of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Beyond the informative presentations, attendees will have ample opportunity to network with peers and connect with industry leaders throughout the day. Carbon Conference 2.0 is also an accredited training, offering up to 5.0 Dairy AdvanCE continuing education units (CEUs).
