Farm Technology Days Kicks-Off in Kewaunee County
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/11/2017

Kewaunee County is the place to be this week as thousands of agricultural producers, industry professionals and local consumers head to the 64th Wisconsin Farm Technology Days near Algoma. Ebert Enterprises, a 3,000-cow dairy operation that features a 80-stall rotary parlor, is hosting this year's outdoor exposition.

The festivities kick-off at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday with opening ceremonies in the Family Living Tent. Visitors to the show this week can take part in field demonstrations, educational workshops and have a chance to talk to exhibitors ranging from equipment manufacturers to seed companies. FFA students will be in town competing in the state's annual tractor safety contest and land judging competition.

One of the unique aspects of this year's event is a replica of Lake Michigan, which was dug into the ground within 'Innovation Square.' That portion of Tent City will also include farmer-inventors and other exhibitors who will be showing off their innovations.

Tuesday's speakers at the Family Living Tent include Alice in Dairyland Crystal Siemers-Peterman, Local Historian Virginia Feld-Johnson and music by the Luxemburg/Casco Community Band.

Field demonstrations begin at 10:00 a.m. with hay mowing and tillage activity. Afternoon demos will feature hay merging and chopping, as well as rock picking. Farm tours of the dairy operation will also be held throughout the day.

Meanwhile, organizers say the entire grounds have been wired for Internet access. And Tent City will again be run with generators powered by biodiesel fuel.

Weather reports say attendees can expect partly sunny conditions with highs in the mid-70s.

The show runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with daily admission costing $8.00 for ages 12 years of age and older. Children are free.

This is the first time Kewaunee County is hosting Farm Technology Days.
