Caruso Steps Down As National FSA Administrator
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/08/2009

Wisconsin native Doug Caruso, who was named administrator of the USDA's Farm Service Agency in Washington, D.C. two months ago, has already left the position. The Country Today reports that USDA Press Secretary Caleb Weaver confirmed Caruso's resignation as of July 6. He was appointed to the post on April 22.

The farm newspaper was unable to reach Caruso for comments, and Weaver didn't know why Caruso resigned.

Caruso headed the Wisconsin FSA under the appointment of the Clinton Administration between 1993-2001. Prior to that, he worked as a state director for U.S. Senator Herb Kohl's office and was also the general manager of the former Farmers Union Milk Marketing Cooperative.

In 2003, he was hired as the CEO of Wisconsin Farmers Union Specialty Cheese, a dairy foods manufacturing firm based in Montfort. He left that job this year to take on his new responsibilities in Washington.

The Farm Service Agency manages farm commodity, credit, conservation, disaster and loan programs through a network of federal, state and county offices.
