State Corn Growers Backing Tommy Thompson for Senate
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/13/2012

Tommy Thompson has picked up the endorsement of a third statewide farm group in his run for U.S. Senate. The Wisconsin Corn Growers' Association political action committee, CORN PAC, is backing the former governor and Bush health secretary in the August primary election.

"Governor Thompson has always understood the challenges farmers face from over regulation," said WCGA President Brian Long. "From his days in the State Assembly, through his years as our governor, he has always been one of the strongest advocates farmers have."

While in Madison, Long says Thompson signed into law Wisconsin's use value assessment system for property taxes, which saved Wisconsin rural landowners nearly four billion dollars in property taxes since its implementation in 2000. He also eliminated the state's inheritance tax.

Governor Thompson owns 700 acres of corn, soybeans, and hay, along with a herd of purebred Belted Galloway cattle in Elroy.

The Wisconsin Corn Growers Association represents the interests of the state's corn growers on federal, state, and local issues.

Thompson also has the backing of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau and Dairy Business Association.
