Organic Advisory Council to Meets Next Week
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/17/2012

The Wisconsin Organic Advisory Council's quarterly meeting will be July 23 in Dodgeville. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture says the public is invited to attend the meeting and participate in an afternoon tour.

The forum will begin at 9:45 a.m. at the Iowa County Courthouse. Agenda items include the introduction of new council members, review of the 2012 priorities and reports from government agencies. New business will include discussion of the impact of the current drought conditions on organic yields and prices.

Following lunch, there will be a conversation about the Organic Farming Research Foundation with Deidre Birmingham, a member of the Foundation's board and a local organic orchardist. At 1:30, the council will arrive at Birmingham's farm, The Cider Farm near Mineral Point, for a tour.

The mission of the 12-member Organic Advisory Council is to advise government leaders on critical organic issues and support organic production, processing and purchasing opportunities for Wisconsin farmers, processors and consumers.
