Byom Wins Tractor Safety Contest Held at FTD

A Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School student has won the State FFA Safe Tractor Operator Contest. Seth Byom placed first in the event, which was held Tuesday in conjunction with Wisconsin Farm Technology Days in Walworth County.

The competition is scored by the individual's ability to perform various tasks while driving a tractor, as well as the results of a written test.

Devin Rettenmund of the Wisconsin Heights FFA was named runner-up in the contest, and Anthony Cornick from Osceola placed third.

Other finalists who competed yesterday were Collin Bays, Adams-Friendship; Brett Buske, Lomira; Ethan Hass, Manawa; Ben Neumann, Osceola; Matt Walz, River Ridge; Matthew Peters, Shawano; Joe Litz, Valders; Robert Woock, Waupun; Jesse LaMie, Weyauwega-Fremont; and Kyle Loehrke, Weyauwega-Fremont.

The purpose of the event is to promote and encourage safe and skillful farm tractor operation, in addition to providing members an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of tractor maintenance and safety.
