Hearing Slated for Proposed 4,300 Cow Dairy in Adams County
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/18/2011

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is holding a hearing today for neighboring residents to weigh in on a proposed 4,300-cow dairy farm in Adams County near Coloma. The DNR says the forum will include an informational session from project organizers, as well as a question-and-answer period for those who want to speak for or against the project. The meeting will be held at noon at the Adams County Community Center in Adams.

The proposed Richfield Dairy is being built by the Kaukauna-based Milk Source, but must first obtain two additional permits from the DNR before proceeding with the project.

The farm will sit in the town of Richfield and employ about 40 workers. But some locals are already concerned about how the farm will handle the large amount of manure the operation will produce. Others are worried about the additional traffic the large farm will create.

Milk Source has four other farms in the state, with locations in De Pere, Kaukauna, Omro and Rosendale. They are also in the process of obtaining permits for another 4,000-cow dairy in Adams County. That farm is being proposed in the town of New Chester.
