Workshops Planned for Women Who Farm
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/22/2014

While the number of U.S. farms has been on the decline for many years, the number owned and operated by women has been rising. To help these women succeed in farming, the MOSES Rural Women's Project offers 'In Her Boots: Sustainable Farming for Women, by Women' workshops.

Two In Her Boots workshops will take place in Wisconsin this summer. The first is being held July 25 at Four Elements Organic Herbals in North Freedom. Then on August 15 at Stoney Acres Farm in Athens.

Jane Hawley Stevens hosts the July 25 workshop. She raises a diverse range of herbs on her 130-acre farm, which then go into over 200 different herbal wellness products. She will conduct a guided tour through her educational Chakra Garden, extensive production field, and new manufacturing facility.

Kat Becker hosts the August 15 program. Becker will discuss her farm's 20-week Community Supported Agriculture and its newest venture, Pizza Night on the Farm. Other workshop topics will include the fundamentals of running a diversified farm business, organic growing techniques, and family integration. On the detailed farm tour, participants will see the certified commercial kitchen, the farm's new packshed and renewable energy investments, hoophouses, field sites and more.

In Her Boots workshops run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and cost $50, which includes lunch. Scholarships are available. To register, call the MOSES office at 715-778-5775.
