Lightning Claims Life of Eight Dairy Cows in Green County
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/26/2010

The heavy rains aren't the only thing setting back farmers this month around Wisconsin.

A Monroe-area farm family says lightning struck a tree in their pasture on Thursday night, killing eight dairy cows that were standing beneath it.

Gannett Newspapers reports that Brad and Cathy Timm were at home when they heard a loud boom, which rattled the entire house.

When they went outside to inspect for damage, they found the animals.

The Green County dairy operation only had 40 cows on its farm, so about 20 percent of their herd was lost in the incident.
