Southwest Badger RC&D Looking for Land for Grazing Demos
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/25/2016

Land in Southwest Wisconsin is being sought to host three-year demonstrations of renting land for well-managed grazing. The effort is part of the regional Grazing Broker project that aims to keep grasslands intact by decoupling land ownership and livestock management through contract grazing.

The demonstration sites will be rented at reduced rates to beginning livestock producers by Southwest Badger Resource Conservation and Development Council, Inc. Revenue generated from the project will be invested in grazing education and implementation of grazing best management practices in Southwest Wisconsin.

"Landowner participants who are selected will receive an up-front rental payment of at least $75 per acre per year plus payments for good pasture condition and best management practices," said Grazing Broker Robert Bauer. "Ideal land for the project is expiring or has expired from the Conservation Reserve Program or is in crops or hay and does not currently have a grazing system in place."

Bauer says parcels greater than 80 acres are ideal, although smaller acreages may be selected.

The deadline for application to participate is August 5. More information or to sign-up, call 608-732-1202.
