State Holstein Futurity Slated for State Fair Week
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/29/2010

Some of the state's finest dairy animals will be appearing on the coliseum floor at the Wisconsin State Fair next month for the Wisconsin Holstein Futurity. The 2010 Futurity will be taking place on August 14 beginning at 5:00 p.m. near Milwaukee.

The Holstein Futurity is unique as exhibitors wear tuxedos, suits and formal gowns instead of the traditional show whites while parading their animals around the ring. Also making the event different is that animals are entered as calves and shown as three-year-old cows. The is expected to feature about 200 animals.

The first place animal will be receiving a $1,500 cash prize, second place receives $750 and $500 goes to the third place winner. Other awards such as Top Junior, Top Bred and Owned, Production winners, and Cheese yield are named as well. There are also special awards for Best Dressed Junior, Female and Male Adult.

The purpose of the Futurity is to stimulate interest in the breeding and exhibiting of outstanding Holsteins of 87-percent or higher Registered Holstein Ancestry.
