DBA Endorses Sen. Leibham for Congress
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/29/2014

A Wisconsin farm group has selected its favorite candidate for the 6th congressional district race in next month's primary election. The Dairy Business Association has endorsed State Senator Joe Leibham to replace retiring Rep. Tom Petri.

The district is made up of an area running inland from Sheboygan, Manitowoc and Ozaukee Counties on Lake Michigan to communities in Columbia, Marquette and Waushara Counties. It is an area with a strong dairy industry presence, including farms, cheese makers, and a number of other dairy processors.

"State Senator Leibham is the only one of the three Republican primary candidates that worked in the dairy industry," explained DBA President Jerry Meissner. "That matters because it provides him with important insight on the industry's challenges an d strengths going forward."

Leibham served as an accountant executive at a cheese manufacturer prior to joining the state legislature. Meissner says it makes good sense to send a person to Washington that has hands on experience with an industry that makes up such a significant part of the state's economy.

While in Madison, the DBA says Sen. Leibham has helped with efforts to make the farm expansion process more predictable and to ensure that farmers have access to the water they need for their crops and livestock.

The primary election will be held August 12.
