Long-Time Auctioneer to be Honored at State Fair Posthumously
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/30/2010

The late-Paul George of Evansville will be posthumously inducted into the Wisconsin State Fair Hall of Fame next month.

His family will be on hand at a special ceremony during the Junior Barrow Show in the Swine Barn on August 11.

George, who passed away in 2009, grew up showing purebred Duroc with George Bros. Farms of Evansville. He started farming on his own in 1977 with 11 sows and 84 acres.

Paul was best known for his work as an auctioneer, which he started doing in 1967. He began working with his father and did many pig auctions, especially in later years.

According to the Wisconsin Pork Association, his passion was working with youth, helping them raise quality pigs and doing well in the show and sale rings.

In January, the WPA presented the George family with the Distinguished Service Industry Honoree Award in Paul's honor.
