Juneau County Tops State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest

A team from Juneau County took top honors in the senior division of the State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest this week at the Lodi Agricultural Fairgrounds. The event consisted of evaluating classes of market and breeding beef, market and breeding swine, market and breeding sheep and boer goats, as well as answer questions and deliver reasons.

Winning team members were Daniel Walsh, Bailey Miller, Clayton Walsh and Michaela Honnold. They are coached by Lisa Walsh and Todd Cherney. The students will represent Wisconsin at the National 4-H Livestock Judging Contest later this fall in Louisville, Kentucky. The second place senior team was from Waukesha County. Team members included Hannah Tremaine, Mason Roscizewski, and Ceara Cull. They are coached by Karen Tremaine. Manitowoc County placed third in the event, with Iowa County finishing fourth.

The top senior individual judges of the contest were Vanessa Roberts, Manitowoc; Daniel Walsh, Juneau; and Bailey Miller, Juneau.

Meanwhile, the top junior team of the event was from Iowa County, with Emma Steffes, Blaine Springer, Morgan Vondra and Brandon Spring participating. They are coached by Jeff Thomas. The second place junior team was Dunn County, with Juneau County placing third and Grant County in fourth.
