More Dogs Killed by Wolf Attacks in Past Week
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/28/2009

July hasn't been a good month in parts of Wisconsin in terms of the number of hunting dogs being killed by wolves. The state's natural resources department has confirmed that three more dogs have been fatally attacked during the past week.

DNR Spokesperson Ed Culhane says two bear hunting dogs were being trained for the season when they were attacked near Neillsville in Clark County. One of those dogs died. Two other bear hunting dogs were killed in Oneida and in Burnett Counties last week

Culhane says the female dog near Neillsville was killed by the Iron Run Wolf Pack. This is the second wolf attack this month in Clark County.

Recently, the federal government has put gray wolves in the western Great Lakes region back on the endangered species list, which means it's illegal to kill a wolf. But that rule is being fought in the courts as farmers and dog owners say the population is getting out of control.
