New Dairy Food Safety Alliance Has Been Launched
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 08/14/2018

A group of Wisconsin dairy industry stakeholders have pulled their resources together to create the all-new Dairy Food Safety Alliance, which is a coalition that aims to deliver the latest in food safety news to dairy product manufacturers, processors and their suppliers.

Created by the Center for Dairy Research, Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin, and Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association, the Alliance will meet twice each year to hear from state and national experts on food safety and quality assurance.

"New regulations and the recent uptick in food recalls have cheesemakers devoting more time and resources than ever to food safety efforts," said WCMA Director John Umhoefer. "Our organizations aim to provide the support members need not only to meet the requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act, but also to maintain and enhance the industry's reputation for quality."

The program will be funded by a USDA-NIFA grant, and will provide FSMA training and on-site consultations to more than 80 dairy manufacturers and processors in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa.

The group's first meeting will take place at World Dairy Expo in Madison on October 8.
