Wisconsin Ag Connection - 01/23/2009

The Wisconsin Cattlemen's and Cattlewomen's Associations will hold their annual Winter Conference along with the Western Wisconsin Beef Producers next month in Tomah. The February 6-7 event will be held at the Cranberry Country Lodge.

The conference will begin with discussions on how to reduce cow/feeder cattle wintering costs by Dr. Greg Lardy of North Dakota State University. On Saturday, Dr. Jon Beever of the University of Illinois will talk about the latest in genetic considerations to build and improve your business. Paul Kivlin from the University of Wisconsin will also be on hand during the weekend to speak about the economic opportunities and environmental risks involved with manure management in today's world. And attendees will hear from Dan Basse of AgResource Company, a frequent guest on CNN, CNBC, NBC and ABC network news programs, who will address agricultural topics and deliver realities and prospects of the current market conditions.

The annual legislative update will feature Senator Dan Kapanke and Rep. Lee Nerison. National Cattlemen's Beef Association will be represented by Elizabeth Bostdorff from Washington, D.C.

Award presentations and official business sessions of each of the groups will also take place. And the conference will welcome singer and songwriter Michael Martin Murphy, who will perform on Saturday evening.

Beef Producers and interested parties need not be a member of the state associations to participate. For information or to get registration materials, call 608-848-8080.
