Emergency CWD Rule Approved by Natural Resources Board
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 08/21/2018

Hunters who shoot deer in an area effected by Chronic Wasting Disease may soon be limited on where they can take that animal's carcass under a new emergency rule approved by the state's Natural Resources board.

As part of the new regulations, hunters would be allowed to transport their deer to adjacent counties and may also take them to a meat processor or taxidermist within 72 hours from the time the carcass left the county.

The rules still have to be approved by Governor Scott Walker before going into effect.

The move is an attempt to keep CWD from spreading. As currently written, the rule will expire in nine months, unless the board makes it permanent later.
