UW-Platteville Ag Student Appointed to Board of Regents
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 08/19/2013

A University of Wisconsin-Platteville student majoring in Animal Science has been appointed to the UW System Board of Regents. Governor Scott Walker announced Friday that he has selected Chad Landes to fill the post after Katie Pointer's term expired in May.

Landes currently serves as a UW-Platteville Agriculture Ambassador, where he travels to high schools across the Midwest to recruit students for college's school of agriculture. He plans to attend the UW School of Veterinary Medicine in Madison after earning his degree at Platteville.

"Being nominated for the UW System Board of Regents is a great honor, and we are proud that Chad Landes has been chosen to represent all the UW System students," UW-Platteville Chancellor Dennis J. Shields said. "Chad is an animal science major who has attained academic honors while also being involved in many agricultural extra-curricular activities. He epitomizes the hands-on learning we stress at UW-Platteville and will be a fine representative to the Board of Regents."

The regents board is responsible for establishing policies and rules for governing the UW System, planning to meet future state needs for collegiate education, setting admission standards and policies, reviewing and approving university budgets, and establishing the regulatory framework within which the individual units are allowed to operate with as great a degree of autonomy as possible. Board members attend eight regular meetings per year, serve on special committees, serve as liaisons with at least two UW institutions, and perform related duties.

The UW System Board of Regents is an 18 member panel. The governor appoints 14 citizen members and two student members to serve seven-year terms and two-year terms, respectively.
