Brooks Joins Food, Land & Water Project Steering Committee
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 08/19/2016

Rep. Ed Brooks announced he will be part of a working group that will meet next week to discuss Wisconsin's food, land and water resources and the human demands that affect them. The Wisconsin Food, Land, and Water Project will hold its first meeting on August 23 in Stevens Point. The Reedsburg Republican says the four key talking points to be discussed include polluted surface water, groundwater quality, groundwater quantity, and the future of Wisconsin working lands.

"I look forward to a productive conversation on Wisconsin's natural resources," said Brooks. "I've got hands on experience as a farmer, a town chair, and a state representative, and that lets me see these issues from a variety of perspectives. Responsible management is key for all involved."

Brooks also brings his experience from serving on the Working Lands Initiative Steering Committee in 2005-2006. That initiative's goal was to preserve farmland for future generations and became Wisconsin law in 2009.

Tuesday's meeting will be the first of four that will occur over the next year for the Wisconsin Food, Land and Water Project. The group, which will be co-chaired by Former NRCS State Conservationist Pat Leavenworth and Former Cooperative Resources International President Tom Lyon, is a joint project of the Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation Association and the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service.
