Agribusiness Council Raises $21,000 in Annual Showcase Auction
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 08/12/2008
Even with a slower economy, the Wisconsin Agribusiness Council's main fundraiser of the year has had another great turnout. The group's 22nd Annual Showcase Wisconsin Auction in Stoughton on
Saturday brought in over $21,000 as bidders paid top dollar for cheese, hotel and restaurant certificates, animal supplies, landscaping and orchard supplies, advertising certificates and specialty items. The
proceeds go toward educational programs for the public to learn about food, fiber and natural resources.
WAC President Ferron Havens says there were more than 120 serious bidders registered for the sale. In addition, proceeds from the Benefit Steak & Egg Breakfast allowed the Council to raise another
$800 for the Red Cross and local food pantry.
"We had a great day weather-wise, a good crowd, and some terrific buys," Havens said. "In spite of the sluggish economy, our donators and bidders came through and helped us raise the money necessary to
support our Ag Education projects."
Combined with the Council's Winter Showcase Auction, held last February near Dorchester, a total of $30,000 was raised this year to help produce the agricultural curriculum for Wisconsin fourth grade
students.
The Wisconsin Agribusiness Council is a membership organization for agribusinesses in Wisconsin. The Council, and its educational foundation, the Wisconsin Agribusiness Foundation, strive to educate
consumers on the importance of our agricultural industry to their everyday lives and to provide the industry with a voice at the state level.
