Foremost Farms to Close Two Dairy Plants
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 09/28/2022

Foremost Farms USA has announced plans to close two of its processing facilities by the end of the year. The Baraboo-based cooperative notified nearly 100 workers on Friday that it will shutter its locations in Plover and Milan in December.

Rising costs and aging infrastructure are among the reasons for the decision, according to a spokesperson for the company.

Meanwhile, Dairy Herd Management reports that patrons of Foremost Farms received a letter over the weekend stating that changes will be made starting with the September milk payments to compensate for market adjustments. That decision was made in an attempt to implement market adjustments is based on record high labor costs, higher costs of raw materials to covert milk into finished products, and a significant difference between Class III milk costs and the revenue generated from cheese and whey product sales.

Foremost serves approximately 5,300 farmer-members in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois and employees over 1,300 people in 25 locations.
